Elias Baronos Snr arrived in South Africa in 1957 and took on his first job in the mining industry as he had experience with welding through the Greek Navy. Seven years later, with the help of a close friend a gap was found in the market and Jarel Novelties was established in 1964. Jarel Novelties concentrated on manufacturing smaller leather items. In 1971, Elias Baronos Snr created E Baronos Leather, on his own, and continued as a small manufacturer specializing in hand crafting vanity cases, jewellery cases, briefcases and other small desk accessory items. In 1977, Saki Baronos, Elias and Voula Baronos’ eldest son, started working in the business.
Saki had a new and ambitions vision and took the company in a new direction concentrating on corporate gifts and other specialized items for the larger corporate clients. The business grew and with it the family.
E Baronos Leather in 1998 were contracted with being an approved distributor and manufacturer of corporate gifts for ABSA Bank.
Unfortunately, in 2009, due to certain events the company fell on difficult times and the company had to decrease its staff contingent from 70+ strong to just 30 people. Saki took this “bump in the road” as merely that, a bump and continued working hard and doing what we do best, manufacture high quality items that leave a mark on every client.

In 2010, Elias Baronos Jnr, Saki’s eldest son joined the business. Young and eager to learn he took on the role of finance and trying to drive the business into a new direction. With the corporate gift market evolving and with it, it’s clients and their needs. E Baronos Leather felt that the new course was “never saying no” and exploring new opportunities and designs. With this attitude, E. Baronos Leather was able to maintain and grow into one of the largest small to medium companies in South Africa. E .Baronos Leather was able to naturally find it’s new course, being menu covers for large scale clientele and creating new relationships with up and coming designers and helping them get their brand where it deserves to be.
E. Baronos Leather has also introduced handbags and other custom products.
Fifty percent of the workforce has been with the company for over five years, and thirty percent for over ten years. The company believes in taking care of their people and making them part of the family at E Baronos Leather.
Being a family owned company, all aspects of professional workmanship and excellent client service are a priority to directors Saki and Elias Baronos, both of whom are Proudly South African Citizens.
